Executive Director

As well as serving as the CHR Executive Director, Dr. Oliver is a professor of Psychology and Practical Theology at John Brown University. A licensed psychologist, Dr. Oliver has over 40 years experience in individual, premarital, marital and family counseling.  In addition to his extensive, nationwide teaching ministry, he serves on the Executive Board and national speaking team of the American Association of Christian CounselorsHe has authored more than 20 books and more than 300 articles on marriages and families.

Derek Gwinn, Ph.D.
Director of Relationship Education

Derek earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kentucky, with a double major in Individual and Family Development, and Family Resource Management and Consumer Studies. He earned his Masters of Arts, with an emphasis in social policy and social welfare, from the University of Minnesota. He holds a doctorate from the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota, with an emphasis on parent and family life education.

Jan Phillips
Executive Assistant to Dr. Oliver

Jan has served as Executive Assistant to CHR and Dr. Gary J. Oliver since the Center opened in 1998.  She is also the Coordinator of the “Growing a Healthy Relationship” (GHR) program delivered by CHR on university campuses throughout the nation.  She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from John Brown University.  Prior to coming to work at CHR, Jan was a public and private school teacher, church secretary, business owner and principal/administrator of Summit Co. Christian School in Colorado.

Gail Anderson
Administrative Assistant for Program Evaluation

Gail serves as an Administrative Assistant for CHR and generates reports utilizing the data collected from assessments and evaluations at all CHR events, CRA assessments and SRA assessments.  Before joining CHR, she worked as an office manager and personal assistant for a corporate business.

Courtney Clark
Graduate Fellow

Courtney earned her Bachelor of Arts from Henderson State University, majoring in Communication with a minor in Mass Media. She has spent the last three years working at Ouachita Baptist University in several capacities from Accounts Receivable to Resident Director. She is pursuing a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with an emphasis in Play Therapy as well as working as a Graduate Fellow for the Center for Healthy Relationships.

Brittany Ayers
Graduate Fellow

Transitioning from the undergraduate Psychology student-athlete life, Brittany really enjoys her new position as a full time Graduate Counseling student and part time employee for the CHR at JBU. She is a double major studying Marriage & Family Therapy, and School Counseling. She is thankful for open doors and cannot wait to see what else God does in her life as she learns from and makes connections with new people through her position at the CHR as a graduate fellow.
