Full Bio

The Center for Healthy Relationships. Dr. Oliver is a husband, father, university and seminary professor, psychologist, author, and Professor of Psychology and Practical Theology at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

He received his B.A. from Biola University, an M.Div. from Talbot Theological Seminary, a Th.M. from Fuller Theological Seminary, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in both Arkansas and Colorado. Dr. Oliver is a Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). He has earned the Certified Family Life Educator (C.F.L.E.) diploma by The National Council on Family Relations.

Dr. Oliver has over 40 years experience in individual, premarital marital and family counseling. For several years he worked as senior psychologist with a group of family practice physicians and for over 12 years he was Clinical Director of a large non-profit counseling center in Littleton, Colorado. For the past 20 years he has had an extensive nationwide teaching ministry. He has founded, developed and directed several counseling centers. He serves on the Executive Board and the national speaking team of the American Association of Christian Counselors. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for Marriage Partnership magazine. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Today's Family.

In addition to his clinical experience, Dr. Oliver has over ten years experience serving on the staff of churches in California, Nebraska and Colorado. He is also Associate Professor and Program Director for the D. Min. in Marriage and Family Counseling at Denver Seminary.

He is the author of Mad About Us: Moving from Anger to Intimacy with Your Spouse (co-authored with Carrie Oliver), Made Perfect in Weakness: The Amazing Things God Can Do With Failure, Real Men Have Feelings Too, as well as the co-author of ten books with H. Norman Wright including: Raising Emotionally Healthy Kids, Hip-Hop and His Famous Face, and Bruce Moose and the What Ifs published by Victor Books; Raising Kids to Love Jesus published by Regal Books; How To Bring Out The Best In Your Spouse and Good Women Get Angry published by Servant Publications; When Anger Hits Home published by Moody Press, as well as numerous magazine articles. He is the General Editor of the Men of Integrity series, published by Moody Press, and is a contributing editor for New Man Magazine, and Marriage and Family: A Christian Journal. For three years he served as host of Confident Living, a radio program for men produced by Back to the Bible and heard throughout the United States and Canada.
